LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is an open LPWAN protocol on LoRa chirp-spread-spectrum radio. Devices send small payloads over kilometers on unlicensed ISM bands (e.g. 868 MHz in Europe) — ideal for sensors and gateways without per-device cellular subscriptions.
LoRa is the physical modulation (chirp spread spectrum). LoRaWAN is the MAC/network protocol: device classes (Class A/B/C), Adaptive Data Rate (ADR), security and star topology via gateways to a network server.
Class A is battery-friendly with uplink-triggered receive windows. Class B adds scheduled downlink slots. Class C stays mostly in receive mode for low-latency downlink (typically mains-powered). Choose class based on power budget and control latency needs.
Turkey deployments commonly use the European EU868 plan (~863–870 MHz ISM). Order end devices and gateways for the EU868 region and follow local spectrum rules. US915 or Asia plans are not appropriate for Turkey sites.
