Core terms

| LoRa | Physical radio (CSS). Not the networking protocol. |
| LoRaWAN | MAC/network rules on LoRa: device classes, security, star topology. |
| EU868 | European frequency plan (~863–870 MHz). Common TR choice. |
| End node | Sensor/actuator; usually Class A on battery. |
| Gateway | Bridge between end nodes and the network server. |
| Network server (NS) | ChirpStack, The Things Network, or cloud NS. |
| Application server (AS) | Dashboard, SCADA, or API sink. |
Class A / B / C
- Class A — Two short downlink windows after uplink; lowest energy.
- Class B — Scheduled ping slots.
- Class C — Nearly continuous listen; low-latency commands, higher power.
